Thoughts

Phyllis was a lovely warm hearted lady with a great sense of humour. Whenever we met up, staying with her in Cornwall or when she visited Caroline in Woodley we always had a great time filled with laughter, good food and a glass of wine or two. David and I will always remember Phyllis and Caroline taking us for afternoon tea at the hotel overlooking the bay at Falmouth, just after her 100th birthday, to celebrate our engagement. A lovely time was had by us all. My abiding memory of Phyllis is her joy of life and her wonderful smile.

What an absolute star Phyllis was. She had such positive and happy thoughts, I always enjoyed seeing her on her many visits to Caroline and Celia. She will be greatly missed.

When I think about what life will be like without Mum, it is hard to imagine. At the age of 103, she has been a part of our lives for so long and we have always had someone there who, through age and experience, seemed always older and wiser. Growing up in London with grandparents in Somerset and Scotland, our parents were the ones who were always there for us and latterly with Mum on her own in Cornwall, it became even more important to keep in touch. We will have so much to remember Mum by and this quotation sums up for me the legacy that she has left to us and to so many that knew her. “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” Thucydides Celia.
